GIANT Company Donates Sports Equipment to National Triathlon Team

PHNOM PENH: GIANT Cambodia has donated bicycles and sports equipment to the Cambodian Triathlon Federation to facilitate their training before the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in May.

The handover ceremony was held at the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia’s office, between a representative of the GIANT Bicycle Company and the President of the Triathlon Federation, Kong Rithy Chup, on Monday, 6 March 2023.

The Triathlon Federation President thanked GIANT for providing the sports equipment and said that this donation supports the training of the Cambodian national team who are preparing for the upcoming SEA Games in June. He also encouraged all athletes to train hard to win national gold medals.

"I would like to thank GIANT and President Andy for supporting the training of our athletes since 2009, providing bicycles, helmets and shoes, because a lot of material is needed for this sport," he said.

A member of the national triathlon team, Thorn Somavathy, told EAC News that the sports equipment she received from GIANT helps to facilitate her training a lot, as the team was previously training without all the equipment they needed. By receiving this new training equipment, Somavathy said she will try to train as hard as she can to possibly win medals in the future.

"For myself and all of us, I have really worked hard to bring medals to the nation," said Somavathy.

Representative of GIANT Cambodia, Real Liza, said that this donation was made with the aim of helping the country at the upcoming SEA Games and to have a part in supporting Cambodian athletes.

"Our company can help as much as we can, because we are all Cambodians," she said. "Let's join together, because the goal is to win all our national medals together."

The items distributed by GIANT include bicycles, helmets, clothing, shoes and other sports equipment worth about $30,000 dollars.

The triathlon is a multisport race comprising of cycling, swimming and running.
